EUID: the new European identifier appearing on your Kbis
If you have ordered a Kbis extract recently, you may have noticed a new line: the EUID. Behind this acronym is a unique European identifier that will make life easier for businesses working with partners in the European Union.
Decoding this administrative change.
EUID: what are we talking about?
EUID stands forEuropean Unique Identifier. It is a code that uniquely identifies a company inany EU Member State.
Until now, each country had its own business identification system: SIREN in France, other numbers elsewhere. The problem? These numbers do not "talk" to each other. A German partner receiving your SIREN number cannot easily verify your legal information.
The EUID solves this by creating acommon languagefor identifying businesses at European level.
What does the French EUID look like?
For French companies, the EUID is structured as follows:
FR-XXXX-SIREN
Where:
- FR= country code (France)
- XXXX= registry code (registry identifier)
- SIREN= your 9-digit SIREN number
For example, a company registered at the Paris registry with SIREN 123456789 will have an EUID such as: FR-7501-123456789.
What is the EUID actually used for?
Simplifying cross-border checks
You work with a Spanish supplier and want to verify it is properly registered? With the EUID, you can access that company's legal information via theEuropean e-Justice portal, without having to understand how the Spanish trade register works.
Facilitating group operations
For businesses with subsidiaries in several European countries, the EUID simplifies administrative management. Exchanges between registries and national registers are facilitated by this common identifier.
Securing commercial transactions
Before signing a contract with a European partner, you can verify its legal existence, legal form, directors... The EUID gives you the key to this official information.
How do you obtain your EUID?
Good news: you havenothing to do. The EUID is assigned automatically by the Trade and Companies Register to all companies registered in France.
It now appears on your Kbis extract, alongside your SIREN number and other identification details.
The legal framework
The EUID stems fromEuropean Directive 2012/17/EUwhich aims to interconnect the central commercial registers of Member States. This directive has been transposed progressively in all EU countries.
The long-term objective is to create aEuropean business registerallowing access to information on any European company from any Member State.
What this changes for you day to day
If you work only in France
Not much in the immediate term. Your SIREN number remains your main identifier for all national procedures. The EUID is additional information that does not change your obligations.
If you have European activities
The EUID becomes a valuable tool:
- Share it with your European partners to facilitate their checks
- Use it to verify the legal existence of your European suppliers and clients
- Include it in your international contracts as an official reference
Key takeaways

This development forms part of the gradual construction of a European digital single market. Even if its immediate impact is limited for SMEs working only in France, the EUID will probably become essential for any cross-border activity in the years ahead.
